IBM Calls Internet Wild West
There has been a 508 percent increase in the number of new malicious Web links discovered in the first half of 2009, according to IBM's X-Force 2009 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report. The report found an increase in the presence of malicious content on trusted sites, including search engines, blogs, bulletin boards, personal websites, online magazines and mainstream news sites. PDF vulnerabilities seen in the first of 2009 surpassed all those detected in 2008. Google Shares Interesting Malware Stats
Google is sharing some interesting statistics on malware, such as the number of entries on the Google Safe Browsing Malware List that have occurred over the last twelve months, and search results containing a URL labeled as harmful. "We're glad to share this sort of data because we believe that collaboration and information sharing are crucial in driving anti-malware efforts forward," says Niels Provos of Google's Security Team. Bit.ly Teams Up with Yfrog on Image Sharing
Bit.ly is the leading link shortening service, being the default one on Twitter's website. This week on bit.ly's blog, they pointed out some recent integrations from around the web, where their API is in use. Google Reader is using bit.ly in their new "send-to" feature, which lets users share posts on Twitter with bit.ly URLs. Typepad added a feature that generates bit.ly links on Twitter for new blog posts, CBS started using "cbs.bit.ly" for news and video content, and a Mozilla developer created a "retweet" button using bit.ly. YFrog, a service, which is growing in popularity, and lets users share images and video on Twitter, is going to be the next one to join forces with bit.ly to "streamline link and media sharing" on social media sites, as a spokesperson for YFrog puts it. Feedzilla is a news aggregator which categorizes news stories by topic. It is a platform where webmasters and bloggers can find an unmatched selection of easy to use, automatically updating and professional news widgets for their sites. Feedzilla supports the building of widgets in various formats, as well as allowing the addition of news widgets to different blogging platforms and social networks.
