I'm a fairly open minded person, and my definition of folk music is admittedly more broad than your average festival-going traditionalist folkie. But listening to the new Monsters of Folk record, I can't help but feel like there is almost nothing having anything to do with traditional American music at work here. Now and then, there's a guitar lick that indicates a vague nod toward classic-style country music. Otherwise, it's a lushly produced pop record played on acoustic guitars. Don't get me wrong. I can recognize that most music being made these days is influenced at least in some small part by Bob Dylan or the Beatles - both of whom pulled hugely from traditional music - and, as such, it's hard for any band to claim a complete separation from traditional roots music. However, this record is by design not a folk record. Aside from the community and collaborative aspect of the forming of this band, these guys are not folksingers. Am I being too critical here? Me In Motion, which is made up of Seth Mosley (lead vocals/guitar), Tim Wilson (bass/background vocals) and Brian Dexter (drums/background vocals), has recently signed with Centricity. The band garnered the attention of Centrictiy  after they made their debut GMA appearance at Centricity Music?s showcase in April. Me In Motion?s debut project will release to retail in spring 2010 and the band will be selling early copies of the new CD at all Newsboys concert dates and digitally online. The first single from the new album, ?Losers,? will head to radio on October 16th.
