National Arboretum Installs Solar-Powered Drip Irrigation System At Its Facility
The US National Arboretum has installed a solar-powered drip irrigation system that will save electricity and water at the 446-acre facility operated by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Washington, DC. The new system, located in Nursery 5, comprise of six solar panels that collect sunlight, a battery that stores the energy, and a converter box that converts the stored energy into electricity used to run the nursery's drip-irrigation system.

SCHOTT Solar To Enter Japanese Solar Cell Market
SCHOTT Solar AG (SCHOTT Solar), a manufacturer of solar cells, has decided to expand into the Japanese market for solar power. Starting this summer, the company will market solar power systems to households in Japan through its partnership with Fujipream Corporation (Fujipream). Schott Solar and Fujipream signed a partnership in 2008 fall, under which SCHOTT Solar will supply Fujipream with the equivalent of 17,500 kilowatt (kW) worth of solar cells over a period of three years.
