Biologynews.comTurning back the clock: Fasting prolongs reproductive life span Scientific dogma has long asserted that females are born with their entire lifetime's supply of eggs, and once they're gone, they're gone. Having almost 10 times more antioxidants than fruits and vegetables, black tea detoxifies harmful chemicals in the body and boosts the immune system. According to a report in the Journal of Food Science, black tea may also be useful in controlling diabetes by helping to reduce blood sugar. Black, green, and oolong teas are all derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and all contain polysaccharides that inhibit glucose absorption in the body. The researchers found that black tea polysaccharides however, have more glucose-inhibiting properties than green or oolong teas. The polysaccharides in these teas help to lower blood sugar by inhibiting an enzyme called alpha-glucosidase, which turns starch into glucose. Further research is suggested to determine if drinking brewed black tea would be useful in treating or preventing diabetes.
