Comfort Food: Chocolate, Water Reduce Pain Response To Heat
People often eat food to feel better, but researchers have found that eating chocolate or drinking water can blunt pain, reducing a rat's response to a hot stimulus. Discovery Reveals Gene Activity Networks That Let Tumors Thrive And Suggests New Modes Of Therapy
Researchers from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) have uncovered a large, new cache of genes that act as built-in barriers against cancer. Known as tumor suppressors, the newly identified genes and the insight that they provide into devising new therapeutic strategies against lymphoma are described in a paper published in Cancer Cell. The CSHL team's discovery stems from their use of a powerful technology called RNA interference (RNAi), which suppresses gene activity.
