The state fire marshal's office says four children have been killed in a mobile home fire in western Ohio.State Fire Marshal's spokesman Shane Cartmill says firefighters responded to a heavy blaze in a mobile home park in St. Paris early Saturday. He says all four children were under age 12, but their names and ages have not been confirmed.Cartmill says two adults and a baby escaped through a window, and at least one was injured.Officials do not know if the people in the home were related. Cartmill says the home had a fire detector, but it wasn't functioning.

When I was first born, everyone thought I was totally and completely normal. According to my mom, the nurses called me 'Mr. Mellow,' because while all the other babies would scream and cry I would just kind of look around. She also says that when she first had me in her arms, she told me that she loved me and that I could be anything I wanted to be in the world. I hope that is still true. But pretty soon after I was born, my doctor detected a heart murmur, and when I was about three months old, I had to have open-heart surgery. I think this was a pretty crappy time for my parents. They thought I might die, and I could have died. My mom says the night before my heart operation was one of the worst nights of her life. She wasn't allowed to nurse me. She could barely even hold me. When they took me into the operating room the next day, she basically fainted. Apparently my dad turned to her and said, 'Just think of it this way. He'll never have to go to war.'

(New Orleans, Louisiana) A federal judge has given the state of Louisiana 15 days to put both names of a gay couple on the birth certificate of their adopted son.In December, U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey in New Orleans ordered the state Office of Vital Records to put the names of both fathers on the amended birth certificate. In his ruling Zainey said failing to amend the birth certificate violated the U.S. Constitution. Zainey issued the ruling without holding a trial. This week, Louisiana attorney general's office asked Zainey to reconsider the ruling or order a full trial. On Thursday, Zainey rejected the motion by Attorney General Buddy Caldwell and ordered the state to comply with his original order within 15 days. Caldwell said he will appeal the ruling to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He wants the court to issue an immediate stay on Zainey's order until the appeal is heard. A bipartisan bill that advocates say will save lives by allowing states to provide Medicaid coverage to low-income, HIV-positive Americans has been reintroduced in Congress. The bill was filed by Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and currently has 44 co-sponsors. A similar bill is expected to be introduced in the U.S. Senate soon. The legislation addresses a gap in health care coverage for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. Despite the fact that Medicaid is the largest single provider of HIV/AIDS care in the U.S., currently most adults with HIV are not eligible for Medicaid until they have progressed to full blown AIDS. Without Medicaid coverage, many low-income Americans are left without the critical care and medication needed to help slow the progression of the disease.
