Allies` stance cited in US gays-in-military debate
When it comes to dealing with gay personnel in the ranks, the contrasts are stark among some of the world's proudest, toughest militaries-and these differing approaches are invoked by both sides as Americans renew debate over the Pentagon's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy. In the United States, more than 12,000 service members-including dozens of highly trained Arabic linguists-have been dismissed since 1994 because it became known they were gay. Current targets for discharge include a West Point graduate and Iraq war veteran, Army National Guard Lt. Dan Choi, and a veteran of combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan, Air Force Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach. In Britain, on the other hand, gay and lesbian service members marched in crisp uniforms in the annual Pride London parade July 4. Gay Australian soldiers and sailors had their own float in Sydney's Gay Mardi Gras parade. In Israel, the army magazine earlier this year featured two male soldiers on the cover, hugging one another.

TAMPA - The State Attorney's Office dropped charges against former Hillsborough Commissioner Brian Blair, who was arrested on Father's Day after an alleged conflict with his two teenage sons. The arrest report stated that the 52-year-old had an early morning scuffle with his 17- and 14-year old sons that resulted in several thrown punches and a headlock. The State Attorney's Office found, however, that Blair was not the aggressor in the conflict. The heated conflict between the father and sons began before dawn when the Blair boys returned to the hoe around 4 a.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. When he confronted the boys about their late night, Blair told authorities that his oldest son lashed out physically, requiring the former wrestler to defend himself. While he tried to restrain his son, Blair said 'I was physically accosted by the other teen.' Blair was initially arrested Blair on felony child abuse charges but upon further study that the elder Blair rec
