Habs keeping tabs on O`Byrne
The Sports Xchange reports one area where there could be improvement for Montreal over the second half is on defense. The Canadiens could use either a puck-moving defenseman to help on the power play or a bruiser like Mike Komisarek. There have been suggestions that Tomas Kaberle could be pried loose from the Toronto Maple Leafs but the price may be more than Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey is willing to pay. There might be a solution closer to home. Gainey has been keeping tabs on Ryan O'Byrne, who started the season as the No. 4 defenseman but was sent to Hamilton (AHL) January 2. O'Byrne is a strong, physical type but he played his way off the roster by making too many mistakes.
