Former Negro League player Logan dead at 98
Eddie Logan, who shined shoes at Santa Anita since the racetrack opened on Christmas Day 1934 and was a former boxer and Negro League baseball player, died Saturday. He was 98.Logan never recovered after suffering a seizure and stroke on Jan. 3, and died at his home in nearby Monrovia, according to track spokesman Mike Willman.

Only three times since the magazine began ranking prospects in 1984 has a No. 1 team failed to reach the postseason within five years. Here’s a look at how the No. 1 teams have done since the rankings started. 1984, ’85: MetsTop prospects: RHP Dwight Gooden, RHP Calvin Schiraldi.
