With free agency set to begin in three weeks, the Vikings find themselves with about $20 million under the salary cap -- once a huge number but now one that simply puts them in the middle of the pack. Despite having money to spend, it would seem the Vikings won't make a pre-free agency push to re-sign veterans Matt Birk or Darren Sharper.

What to watch for Saturday at the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines
Padraig Harrington and Phil Mickelson: No, I'm not obsessed with Phil but this is his favorite track. And Harrington is the highest-ranked player in the field. Either one of them has to shoot low today to get back into contention. Surprisingly, the field is bunched in the middle. Once you get past Camilo Villegas and John Rollins at the top of the leaderboard, it wouldn't be hard for a player in the pack to jump into the top five with a good round. Catching the leaders would be a chore, but not impossible.
