By JEFF WILSON DETROIT — Kris Benson is going to throw strikes, and opposing hitters are going to put the ball in play.That’s a combination that helped him earn a spot in the Texas Rangers’ rotation out of spring training, and it’s a philosophy that coaches have preached to avoid giving runs away by walking too many hitters.But Benson threw one too many pitches in the strike zone Friday against the Detroit Tigers, and then two relievers couldn’t throw a strike late during a 15-2 loss at Comerica Park.Miguel Cabrera delivered the knockout punch in the fourth inning when Benson left a sinker over the plate that Cabrera pounded for a grand slam.'I tried to go inside and left it right down the middle,' said Benson, who made his first big-league start since 2006.
