The agent for jockey Rene Douglas says the rider might have been paralyzed after begin thrown from his horse during a race at Arlington Park in suburban Chicago. Dennis Cooper told Bloodhorse.com Monday that doctors 'gave it to me straight that he's not likely to walk.' Cooper says Douglas spent seven hours in surgery on Sunday at Chicago's Northwestern Hospital. But he says doctors won't know Douglas' status for certain until swelling reduces in about two weeks.

The agent of Steelers linebacker James Harrison says the player's young son is doing fine after an attack by a pit bull, but may remain in a Pittsburgh hospital another day or two. Harrison's family had hoped that 2-year-old James Harrison III would be released Monday, but Harrison's agent, William Parise, says the hospital is being cautious about any possible infection concerns. Parise says there don't appear to be any complications.

Houston catcher Ivan Rodriguez has left the Astros' game against the Reds after the first inning because of left knee irritation. Rodriguez, in his 19th major league season, is day-to-day. The 37-year-old catcher went into Monday's game hitting .265 with five home runs and 19 RBI. He belted his 300th career home run on May 17 against the Chicago Cubs. Rodriguez has caught 2,212 games, third on baseball's career list behind Bob Boone (2,225) and Carlton Fisk (2,226).
