Pirates 3, Braves 1
Andy LaRoche and the Pittsburgh Pirates started hitting as soon as Javier Vazquez left the game. LaRoche delivered a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning and the Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 Thursday to split the four-game series. LaRoche said he was just trying to make contact when he leaned forward to slap a 3-2 pitch from Rafael Soriano (1-1) up the middle for the tiebreaking hit. Phillies take draft to new heights
Basketball? The best word to describe the Phillies' 27 picks in yesterday's rounds 4-30 would be tall. Eight of the Phillies' first nine picks yesterday were 6-2 or taller. Five of those first nine picks were pitchers, highlighted by 6-4 righthander Steven Inch, from Vauxhall High in Alberta, Canada. Maybe they thought they were trying to field a team to rival the 76ers.
