Halladay hurts groin, leaves in third inning
Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay has left his start against Florida after apparently injuring his groin. Halladay grimaced after throwing his second pitch in the third inning Friday night. Catcher Rod Barajas went to the mound, then motioned to the dugout, calling manager Cito Gaston and trainer George Poulis to join him. Toronto's infielders huddled on the mound as Halladay spoke with Gaston and Poulis. Halladay threw one warm-up pitch, then flipped the ball to Barajas and headed to the dugout.

Washburn can`t hold lead vs. Rox
Mariners SP Jarrod Washburn (3-5) allowed five runs (four earned) and six hits in six innings during a 6-4 loss to the Rockies Friday. Washburn was staked a 3-0 lead before Colorado started the comeback in the third. Colorado got two runs back on Todd Helton's two-out RBI single and on a throwing error by Washburn that pulled Branyan off the bag at first and allowed Clint Barmes to score. Rob Johnson's RBI double over Ryan Spilborghs in left center in made it 4-2 in the fourth. Tulowitzki homered to straightaway center in the bottom half. Washburn then walked Tulowitzki and hit Ian Stewart to start the sixth and one out later Ubaldo Jimenez, a .263 hitter, slapped a single past Branyan at first to score Tulowitzki and tie the game at 4. Dexter Fowler gave the Rockies the lead, 5-4 with a squeeze bunt. The Rockies loaded the bases, but Washburn got out of further trouble by retiring Helton and Brad Hawpe. He walked three and struck out one.

Texas ’pen writes history as Rangers post back-to-back shutouts
By JEFF WILSON ARLINGTON — One of the most common sights at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington the past two seasons was a Texas Rangers reliever working the sixth inning.A starting rotation that was either too injured or too ripe for prime time often gave way early and made the Rangers’ bullpen the most taxed in the game. The 2009 relief corps entered a three-game series against baseball’s best team with the fewest innings thrown in the majors. But the call to action came in the sixth Friday, and the bullpen delivered.Jason Jennings threw three scoreless innings in relief of Vicente Padilla to help preserve a second shutout in a row, and Taylor Teagarden had two doubles and drove in two runs in a 6-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.'Shutouts are huge for a pitching staff’s confidence,' Jennings said. 'Vinnie put up five great innings, and we just wanted to come in and continue that. Fortunately, we were able to continue the shutout.'Newcomer Jason Grilli pitched

Ex-Dodger Andruw Jones holds no animosity
By JEFF WILSONand ANTHONY ANDRO ARLINGTON — The team that paid Andruw Jones simply to go away is likely to face the five-time All-Star tonight, but he said he will approach his anticipated start against the Los Angeles Dodgers like any other. No bad blood, at least not with his former teammates and manager. No extra motivation to perform after the worst season of his otherwise splendid career.Jones has moved on from the 2008 season, when he hit .158 after signing a two-year, $36 million free-agent contract. The 14-year veteran looks back on last season as a learning experience.'When you’ve been in one place so long, you take things lightly,' said Jones, who played for Atlanta from 1996 to 2007. 'I didn’t know how hard it was to be in another city. It’s more mental than anything.'Expect Jones to be in the lineup tonight against left-hander Randy Wolf as manager Ron Washington stacks the lineup with his top right-handed hitters.Jones said he is still a work in pro
