Astros activate Matsui off DL, put Blum on it
Houston Astros second baseman Kazuo Matsui was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, and infielder Geoff Blum was placed on the DL. The Astros made the move before the start of their interleague series against the Texas Rangers. Matsui missed 18 games after he strained his left hamstring May 6. He played in four games in a minor league rehab assignment for Double-A Corpus Christi, and was in the Astros' lineup on Tuesday night.

Braves minor leaguer Cruz suspended for drugs
Atlanta Braves minor leaguer Rafael Cruz has been suspended for 50 games by Major league Baseball after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Baseball announced on Tuesday that the right-handed reliever tested positive for traces of Stanozolol (stah-NO'-zo-lall), a manmade steroid. The right-hander is 1-1 in eight relief appearances for Triple-A Gwinnett. He signed a minor league deal as a free agent in January after spending the past two years with Chunichi in Japan.

Twins send struggling Crain to Triple-A
The Minnesota Twins sent struggling reliever Jesse Crain to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday to make room for starter Glen Perkins. Crain was 2-3 with an 8.15 ERA and 12 walks in 17 2-3 innings this season. He gave up the game-winning single to Chicago's Ryan Theriot in the ninth inning on Sunday that prevented the Twins from sweeping the Cubs. Crain has been with the Twins since Aug. 1, 2004, posting a 3.57 ERA in 272 games.

Santana: Location, not knee, is only problem
New York Mets left-hander Johan Santana insists his left knee isn't hurt and said location was the only problem he experienced while surrendering a career-high nine runs in a 15-0 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday. Before Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, Santana reacted with surprise to comments from former pitching coach Rick Peterson, who told a New York radio station that he'd heard a rumor that Santana was dealing with a bum left knee.

Francisco ready to pitch in another game
Texas closer Frank Francisco says he is ready to pitch again in a game. Francisco threw another bullpen session Tuesday and said afterward that he felt good. The right-hander hasn't pitched in a game since June 3 because of shoulder stiffness. Asked how his shoulder felt, Francisco flashed a thumbs-up sign and said, 'money.' Francisco likely will make a rehab appearance Thursday for Double-A Frisco. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Friday.
