Hamilton desperately searching for his swing
JIM REEVES ARLINGTON — Josh Hamilton is afraid. Not shivering in the corner, shaking in his cleats afraid. It’s not that kind of fear.Yet it’s worse than that in its own way. It’s the kind of fear that eats away at a man from the inside out, a rat with a tapeworm, devouring his confidence. It’s not something Hamilton will readily admit, mind you. It’s certainly nothing he wants to talk to a nosy-Parker reporter about. But the fear is there nonetheless, skulking in the corners of the mind like some foul beast, waiting to pounce on the first shreds of doubt, to feast on any sign of weakness. This does not make the Rangers’ All-Star center fielder unique in the annals of baseball. Castillo ejected on Wednesday
Mets second baseman Luis Castillo has been ejected in the second inning of Wednesday night's game at Washington for arguing a close forceout play. With one out and Josh Willingham on first, Ronnie Belliard chopped a grounder down the third-base line to David Wright, who tried to throw to second for a force. The ball arrived to Castillo the same time Willingham reached the base, then trickled out of Castillo's glove. Second base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt called Willingham safe as Castillo held the ball up for him to see. When Mets manager Jerry Manuel trotted onto the field to dispute the call, Wendelstedt tossed Castillo.
