Jets RB Washington not confident about deal
Leon Washington was back on the field for the New York Jets, without a new deal and not optimistic he'll get one before the season begins. 'I don't feel confident that something's going to get done,' the unhappy running back said after the team's late practice Friday. 'It kind of hurts me a little bit because I've been here three years and busted my tail off and played hard for the organization. 'For me not to get rewarded ... I'm unhappy about that.

Padres fire hitting coach Lefebvre, hire Ready
The San Diego Padres have fired hitting coach Jim Lefebvre and replaced him with Randy Ready. The Padres, last in the majors in runs scored (380) and batting average (.232), and 29th in on-base percentage (.309), made the move Friday. Lefebvre, 67, was hired as hitting coach last November, replacing Wally Joyner, who had resigned before the end of the season. To accomplish that, head coach Wade Phillips took the drastic step of drafting ...Himself.Not because he’s particularly swift of foot, mind you, but Phillips very cleverly recognized that no coach or player with the Cowboys understands the 3-4 defense better than he does. So he did wh

Knowshon a no-show at Broncos camp, Bailey sits
Knowshon was a no-show, and Champ Bailey a no-go. Knowshon Moreno was absent along with fellow first-round draft pick Robert Ayers when the Denver Broncos kicked off training camp Friday under new coach Josh McDaniels, making them the first rookie holdouts in Denver since running back Tatum Bell showed up late in 2004. Bailey, the perennial Pro Bowl cornerback who suffered through an injury-filled 2008 season and underwent offseason elbow surgery, recently said he was 100 percent.
