MLB: Atlanta starter keeps former teammates at bay, as L.A. falls. ATLANTA - Derek Lowe called it just another average performance.

Apparently there's some 'bromance' on the Boise Hawks. Iowa Cubs The Iowa Cubs zapped the New Orleans Zephyrs, 14-0. The I-Cub pitching staff threw a combined one-hitter tonight. Starter James Russell gave up the lone hit in his four innings. Russell walked one and struck out two. Justin Berg got the win in relief because Russell didn't go five. Berg walked one and hit one in his two innings. He struck out one Zephyr. B.J. Ryan, John Gaub and Blake Parker finished out the game with an inning a piece. Ryan and Gaub both struck out two in perfect innings. Parker walked one and didn't strike out anybody. Catcher Chris Robinson led the 19 hit I-Cub attack today by going 4 for 5 with a double. He scored twice and knocked two in. Center fielder Matt Camp was 3 for 5 with a stolen base and three runs scored. Third baseman Nate Spears was 2 for 4 with two walks. Scratch the Cleveland Browns off the list of possible suitors for Michael Vick. Browns coach Eric Mangini said Saturday that his team has no interest in signing Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons star quarterback who served 18 months in prison for running a dogfighting ring. Mangini said he's happy with quarterbacks Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, who will wage a quarterback competition this summer to be Cleveland's starter.

Adam LaRoche has arrived in Atlanta just in time to make his first start with the Braves after his flight from Boston was delayed by a bomb scare at LaGuardia Airport in New York. LaRoche arrived at the Turner Field clubhouse at 2:55 p.m., far too late for batting practice and only a little more than an hour before starting in the Braves' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. LaRoche was in Baltimore with the Red Sox when he was traded to the Braves for Casey Kotchman on Friday.

Anne Donovan's plan to turn around the Liberty in her first game at the helm of the team Saturday night in Atlanta against the Dream didn't turn out the way she wanted - it was an 89-83 loss.

Chamique Holdsclaw scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half as the Atlanta Dream spoiled Anne Donovan's debut as New York's interim coach with an 89-83 victory over the Liberty on Saturday night.

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed free agent right-handed reliever Jeff Bennett to a major league contract. Bennett joined the team on Saturday. He was granted his release by the Atlanta Braves Thursday. Bennett went 2-4 with 3.18 ERA in 33 games with Atlanta before breaking a bone on his left hand in late June. Rays manager Joe Maddon said Bennett will pitch in middle relief. Tampa Bay optioned righ-hander Joe Nelson to Triple-A Durham.

Derek Lowe pitched six innings in his first game against Los Angeles since he signed with Atlanta in the offseason, leading the Braves to a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday.

Chad Billingsley, a winner in only one of his last six starts, opposes Braves' Jair Jurrjens, who has been particularly sharp of late. AT ATLANTA

The Dodgers score three runs off their former ace, but their comeback hopes are thwarted by the Braves' bullpen.
