Texas Rangers add another piece to plan
By JEFF WILSON OAKLAND, Calif. — The target for two years has been 2010, the season when club brass expected the Texas Rangers to blossom into a serious contender in the American League.Of course, the 2009 Rangers have had something to say about that since May and find themselves in position to win their division or claim the wild-card berth. But the pieces expected to be a part of the 2010 push have found their way onto the roster a year early, a trend that started with giving Elvis Andrus the job at shortstop to open the season.Derek Holland followed and is a member of the starting rotation. Center fielder Julio Borbon got his first taste of the big leagues just before the All-Star break.Neftali Feliz blew into the mix Monday night. Holy smokes. The hard-throwing right-hander made his major league debut against Oakland and dominated the Athletics for two innings. He struck out four and hit 101 mph on his final pitch. He appears to be someone who could stay on the big-league roste

Lou and Zambrano Fist Fight on the Horizon?

Putting Sean Marshall in left field for one batter because he wanted to keep him in the game. Shifting Jeff Baker and Alfonso Soriano between 2B and 3B -- after being forced to use Soriano in the infield in the first place -- to try to keep ground balls away from Soriano. And, even yesterday, shaking up the lineup in an attempt to get Aramis Ramirez some rest and a little better outfield defense. Why, then, is it so difficult for Lou to consider some shifts in his bullpen when circumstances make it necessary? Kevin Gregg had blown a save Saturday night and thrown 36 pitches -- the second-most he had thrown in any one game in 2009 and the most in a single-inning appearance -- so why not try someone else on Sunday afternoon?
