Wilfork, Pats still talking
The Patriots and nose tackle Vince Wilfork's representatives are still talking about a contract extension. Wilfork, who made the Pro Bowl after the 2007 season, is upset that no agreement has been reached to extend the six-year deal that ends after this season. Patriots player personnel director Nick Caserio said Thursday the team is working every day on the matter and has had discussions with Wilfork's agent. He also said that Wilfork, one of the Patriots defensive captains last season, is a productive player the team wants to keep. Wilfork's salary is $800,000 this season and he could make about $2.2 million with incentives. He has said he won't let the contract issue affect his play.

Roberto Hernandez Forgot What Year It Is
In the 5th inning Todd Kalas did one of his “sideline” reports, in which he interviewed Rays bullpen coach Bobby Ramos. But what was really interesting about the interview is who was sitting behind Ramos. Original Devil Ray Roberto Hernandez. Jordan Palmer making progress
The Dayton Daily News reports Bengals QB Jordan Palmer, Carson's younger brother, could be in line to be the No. 2 QB in Cincinnati. The report says Jordan Palmer is relaxed and comfortable in the pocket and playing with much more confidence and consistency than a year ago. Plus, he's showing a cannon arm and better accuracy than seventh-year veteran J.T. O’Sullivan. The Bengals signed O'Sullivan in the offseason to be Carson Palmer's backup, but he's been erratic the first week of training camp.

TE Sherry returns to Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals have added to their depleted tight end group, signing free agent Matt Sherry of Villanova. Sherry was a sixth-round pick last year and spent the season on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in the preseason. The Bengals waived him on June 20. Before signing Sherry on Thursday, the Bengals were down to a pair of inexperienced tight ends. Starter Reggie Kelly had surgery on a ruptured Achilles' tendon Wednesday, and reserves Ben Utecht and Daniel Coats were injured in practice the same day.
