Dallas Cowboys could be short on cornerbacks in preseason opener By JEFF CAPLAN SAN ANTONIO — Terence Newman watched Sunday afternoon’s practice from the sideline while nursing a minor groin strain. Coach Wade Phillips indicated that he’ll take a cautious approach to playing the veteran cornerback in Thursday’s preseason opener at Oakland.The Dallas Cowboys could be without three of their six cornerbacks for the game. Mike Jenkins, locked in a battle with Orlando Scandrick for the starting spot opposite Newman, sprained his right ankle Saturday. He did not practice Sunday and is listed as day-to-day. However, Jenkins did announce on his Twitter account Sunday shortly after receiving treatment that he is 'feeling good' and 'will be back soon to shut that corner down like a block party!'Mike Hawkins continues to nurse a knee injury.'We’re still figuring out what we have,' Phillips said.
