Barnett practices on Monday
Nick Barnett isn't all the way back from the knee injury that ended his 2008 season, but the veteran Green Bay Packers linebacker took a big step forward Monday when he practiced for the first time in training camp. The Packers activated Barnett from the physically unable to perform list Monday morning, allowing him to practice for the first time since tearing the ACL in his right knee last Nov. 9 at Minnesota. While he was withheld from 11-on-11 team periods, Barnett took part in individual drills, the jog-through sessions and 7-on-7 work - all of which he said he enjoyed. 'It felt great to be out there,' said Barnett, who sat out all of the team's offseason organized team activity practices and the mandatory minicamp. 'The knee felt great. I don't think I was babying it. I felt good hitting the bags, throwing the pads on with the helmet. The next step is hitting some people. But we'll take it one step at a time.'

Steelers` Ward would like to see Usain bolt to NFL
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward would love to see if Usain Bolt could make it as an NFL wide receiver. After Bolt ran a world record-setting 9.58 seconds in the 100-meter dash on Sunday, Ward began wondering what kind of downfield threat he would be. 'In this game, you have to have great hips and great footwork to get in and out of routes. You can take a fast guy like a Bolt, he might be able to run only one way,' Ward said Monday. 'He has to stop and turn.

Brown has great preseason game
Detroit Lions running back Aaron Brown did his best to share the stage with quarterback Matthew Stafford in their professional debuts. Brown showed he has enough talent to make plays in the NFL with a 32-yard run for a touchdown and a 45-yard reception for a TD, helping Detroit beat the Atlanta Falcons in an exhibition game. But two days later, coach Jim Schwartz was quick to put the breaks on the Brown-related hype. 'Let's not put him in the Hall of Fame yet for what he did in the preseason,' Schwartz said. 'But he did show some speed, he showed some exciting ability, but long way to go.'

Orioles trade Huff to Tigers
Struggling first baseman dealt for minor league reliever; Aubrey call-up expected The Orioles traded first baseman Aubrey Huff to the Detroit Tigers Monday for right-handed reliever Brett Jacobson, who is 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA and six saves in 35 appearances at Single-A Lakeland this season. 'It's definitely emotional,' Huff said. 'Seeing [O's prospects] come up, I've had a great time with the young guys. Seeing them finish out the year and grow, it's a little hard. At the same time for me, it's really exciting.'
