He was a runner-up for the Norris Trophy as the league's top blue-liner and figured to be a can't-miss player on Canada's 2010 Olympic Winter Games team. Twelve months later, on the eve of the 2009-10 season, Phaneuf is still in the hunt for a spot on the prestigious team, but hardly a sure thing. In fact, it's going to be an uphill climb to be part of the squad that will go for gold in Vancouver. By no means can Phaneuf be written off. He's as much in the mix for the few roster spots open as the likes of Duncan Keith, Shea Weber, Mike Green, Dan Boyle and Robyn Regehr. CBS NewsGagne continues to rehab injuries The Sports Xchange reports coming off an incredible comeback season that re-established himself as a goal scorer, Simon Gagne got off to a rough start when he aggravated his right hip and groin area during the Canadian Olympic orientation camp in Calgary. 'For now it's nothing serious,' said Gagne, who scored 34 goals last season after missing most of the previous season with concussions. 'The pace was a little faster than I was used to this summer.
