Super Bowl hero Tyree cut by Giants
David Tyree has gone from Super Bowl hero to out of a job. Tyree was released by the New York Giants on Saturday in the final cutdown that also featured a late trade with backup tight end Michael Matthews, another Super Bowl veteran, being shipped to the New England Patriots for a conditional draft pick. Tyree missed last season after suffering a lingering hamstring injury while coming back from offseason knee surgery.

Royals outfielder Jose Guillen will miss the rest of the season because of a right knee injury. Guillen sat out 37 games with a ligament tear in his knee, but was activated from the disabled list Tuesday. He struck out as a pinch hitter that day and was the starting designated hitter Wednesday, but left after only two at-bats with pain in his right hamstring.

Woodhead makes team as Jets finalize roster
Running back Danny Woodhead made the New York Jets' roster after the team got down to the NFL's 53-player limit Saturday. Fullback Jehuu Caulcrick and linebacker Kenwin Cummings were among the 19 players cut by coach Rex Ryan, while wide receiver Aundrae Allison was placed on injured reserve with an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee. 'I don't really think this is our final roster, but certainly it is today, so we'll see what happens,' Ryan said.

Texans keep Grossman, cut 22 others
Rex Grossman's performance in Houston's final preseason game not only earned him a spot on the final roster, it gave him a chance to be the Texans' backup quarterback. Grossman missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury. He returned Friday night to throw two touchdown passes in Houston's 27-20 win over Tampa Bay and survive the last round of cuts on Saturday. 'He did a heck of a job,' coach Gary Kubiak said.

Bengals cut LB Blackstock, S White
Linebacker Darryl Blackstock and safety Marvin White have been cut by the Cincinnati Bengals as part of moves to reach the 53-man roster limit. The Bengals also put receiver Antonio Chatman on injured reserve Saturday with an ankle injury, ending his season. Blackstock started four games last season and played in eight others. He was suspended four games by the NFL for using a nutritional supplement that contained a banned substance.
