Arlington is a fan magnet with inaugural double-dip Sunday
By JOHN HENRY ARLINGTON — On this seventh day, the sports gods said to open Arlington’s baseball and football shrines for worship.Sunday was indeed set up to be a day to remember in Arlington.Only 10 days ago, the Rangers’ series against the West Division-leading Los Angeles Angels looked to be the series that would make or break their season. By the time of first pitch at noon Sunday, the Rangers’ playoff hopes had all but faded away. But any Cowboys game, no matter the circumstances makes for a big day, any day.Double playSunday was a doubleheader for a number of fans who took in the Rangers and Cowboys games. One was Chris Brown, a TCU graduate who now lives in Frisco, and his dad, Tom. They were guests of Rangers pitcher Derek Holland for the baseball game. They sat in Section 130, Row 38, seats 9-10, a choice locale. Texans 34, Titans 31
Don't call the Houston Texans a finesse team. Not after standing toe to toe with the Tennessee Titans and pulling a victory out of a slugfest. Matt Schaub trumped Chris Johnson's career day by throwing for four touchdowns to go with 357 yards. Kris Brown kicked a 23-yard field goal in the closing minutes, and the Texans ruined the Titans' home opener with a 34-31 victory Sunday. Johnson scored three touchdowns and ran for 197 yards.
