The Reds and Pirates played before one of the smallest crowds in PNC Park history Thursday, when downtown Pittsburgh was virtually empty because of the G-20 summit. The paid attendance was 15,892 - well above PNC Park's all-time low of 8,201 on April 25, 2007, for an Astros-Pirates game - but the actual turnout was about 3,000.

Calvin Johnson should have a lot to be happy about. The Detroit Lions wide receiver has talent almost any football player on the planet would love to have and he's making millions of dollars to play a game he loves. The problem: Johnson's mood is marred by playing for a franchise that has matched the second-longest losing streak in NFL history, dating to the 2007 season when he was a rookie. The New York Jets plan to pay very close attention to Tennessee running back Chris Johnson on Sunday. They'll send one or maybe even two defenders if he tries to line up wide. The Detroit Lions failed to sell all their tickets for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins, meaning there will be a TV blackout in some local markets. Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said Thursday the game will be blacked out in the Detroit, Lansing, Saginaw-Flint and Toledo, Ohio, markets. More than 10,000-plus tickets were available on Wednesday. The Lions have lost 19 games in a row, matching the second-longest skid in NFL history.
