Dallas Cowboys need to change their draft day philosophy about wide receivers
RANDY GALLOWAY It’s about dope, it’s about money and it’s about football fear. But I’m getting ahead of myself.Among a deluge of angry e-mails lately from concerned citizens, there was this level-orange jumpsuit threat from Joseph:'This [Cowboys’] front office and coaching staff should go to jail and all you sports writers with them for not holding them accountable for allowing receiver after receiver to come off the draft board without selecting one.'Verbal and written abuse is accepted with glee, Joseph, but jail references are personally disturbing. Don’t think I’d like the food for one thing. However, the man has a point, at least where the Cowboys’ draft boycott of wideouts is concerned. By now, that’s what you’d have to call it. A draft boycott, which, I’ll remind Joseph, has been hammered on in this space more than once.In Kansas City last week, the Cowboys probably achieved NFL history — at least going back

Polamalu tries to restore edginess to Steelers
The Steelers' defense, one of the best in NFL history only a year ago, isn't the dominating unit it was expected to be. The once-relentless pressure is sporadic. The ability to finish off teams is vanishing. Maybe that little bit of edginess - the quality that Browns coach Eric Mangini says makes the Steelers 'salty' - is missing, too. Troy Polamalu is about to see if he can bring it back.

The field for Saturday's $2 million Canadian International is far from the strongest in the 71-year history of the race, but it's an excellent handicapping puzzle with many possibilities.

Tony Romo to get college jersey retired
By Jeff Caplan Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will spend Saturday afternoon in Charleston, Ill., at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois, where his No. 17 jersey will be retired during halftime of the Panthers' 93rd homecoming game against Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennesee Tech. Romo, a former All-American, will also be inducted into the university's athletics Hall of Fame. Romo finished his college career ranked second in school history and third in conference history with 8,212 passing yards, and first in school and conference history with 85 touchdown passes. He capped his senior season in 2002 by becoming the first Ohio Valley Conference player to win the Walter Payton Award as the nation's top player in what was then Division I-AA.

Dodgers set NLCS rotation
Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers on Thursday in a matchup of left-handers. At 21 years and 209 days, Kershaw will be the third-youngest Game 1 starter in postseason history and the eighth-youngest starter overall, according to STATS LLC. The youngest Game 1 pitcher was Fernando Valenzuela, who was 20 years and 339 days when he started for the Dodgers in the 1981 division series. 'I've grown up a lot since last year,' said Kershaw, who worked out of the bullpen in last year's NLCS. 'It's not obviously the same starting Game 1 of a series or anything like that, but just to have the experience to get out there and pitch against them a little bit is definitely going to help me out.' The rest of the Dodgers' rotation will be Vicente Padilla, Hiroki Kuroda and Randy Wolf, who would pitch Game 4 against his old team in Philadelphia. Chad Billingsley is out of the NLCS rotation right now.
