Apple picking on NYC green living trademark Just as we were enjoying a reprieve from Apple trademark cases, a new one arose this week with the computer maker challenging The Big Apple's GreeNYC logo. CNET Saturday, April 05, 2008
Vista is Slower, But XP Is Still DyingAn anonymous reader writes 'Though the Redmond software giant may be extending the lifetime of XP on low-end laptops, the end is nigh for the aging OS. That extension makes perfect sense, as recent studies have shown XP is far faster than Vista across a number of platforms. Still, Microsoft is 'sticking to its guns' when it comes to drop-dates for most other uses of the XP operating system. 'There are several dates that apply, but the one you're probably thinking of is the June 30 deadline that Dix referred to. That's the last day when large computer makers -- the Dells, HPs and Lenovos of the world -- will be allowed to preinstall Windows XP on new PCs. It also marks the official end of XP as a retail product.'' of this story at Slashdot. Slashdot Saturday, April 05, 2008
Gates: Microsoft Windows 7 Sometime Next YearMicrosoft co-founder Bill Gates said on Friday he expected the new version of Windows operating software, code-named Windows 7, to be released 'sometime in the next year or so'. The software giant has been aiming to issue more regular updates of the operating system software that powers the majority of the world's personal computers. Nevertheless, Gates' comments suggested that a successor to the Vista program might be released sooner than was generally expected. OSNews Saturday, April 05, 2008
Displayport Goes Internal'Intel's next generation laptop platform, code named Montevina, has a nice feature that remains quite unheraleded, Displayport. Not only does it allow you to drive an external DP monitor, it uses it internally.' My take: So let me get this straight. We are finally leaving the days behind where TVs were TVs and computer monitors were computer monitors, entering a brave new world where a TV can be a computer monitor and vice versa, all thanks to DVI/HDMI - and now we're getting Displayport on computers, recreating the wretched OR situation of yore? If I had any hair, I'd be pulling it out right now. OSNews Saturday, April 05, 2008
