Time To Discuss Drug Prohibition?
gplus writes 'December 5th was the 75th anniversary of the end of alcohol prohibition in the US. The Wall Street Journal has an op-ed that argues that now may be the time to discuss our war on drugs and the drug prohibition currently in place. The article argues that the harm caused by the banned substance must be balanced against the harms caused by the prohibition. As to why Americans in 1933 finally voted to end prohibition, while we barely even discuss it: 'Most Americans in 1933 could recall a time before prohibition, which tempered their fears. But few Americans now can recall the decades when the illicit drugs of today were sold and consumed legally. If they could, a post-prohibition future might prove less alarming.'' of this story at Slashdot.

Electric Entertainment: Inside Job
For Leverage, which premieres Sunday on TNT, Executive Producer Dean Devlin devised "an end-to-end Final Cut workflow" that allowed him to deliver a highly-produced show on a cable TV budget. "We color corrected in Color, we edited in Final Cut Pro, we mixed in Soundtrack Pro. We delivered the show without ever going to an outside post house." Final Cut Studio, Devlin says, "really exceeded all of our expectations."

Apple vs. Dell vs. Lenovo: Got to Love Choices
The economic pressure continues to increase and there is a reasonably good chance that we'll be down to one large car company in the U.S. by this time next year -- Ford, which appears to be the only one that isn't saying it won't survive without a massive cash infusion from the U.S. government. In the PC space, there are three companies being watched closely: Apple and Dell in the U.S. and Lenovo in China.

A Cheat Sheet To All the Browser Betas
Harry writes 'I can't remember another time when there were so many Web browsers in prerelease form — 2009 should be a really, really good year for final browser versions. I have posted a quick recap of the state of the upcoming versions of Chrome, Firefox, internet explorer, and Safari.' It is nice to see a healthy market of competition driving innovation in a market that has been largely stagnant in recent history. What do other folks see on the scorecard? of this story at Slashdot.
