3-D Light System May Revolutionize Fingerprinting
coondoggie writes 'The US Department of Homeland Security's Science & Technology Directorate recently awarded almost $420,000 to a Kentucky company to further develop a contactless finger print/biometric system. The goal is a machine that can snap 10 fingerprints in high resolution in less than 10 seconds, without human intervention. This goal is beginning to lok feasible. FlashScan3D is working with the University of Kentucky's Center for Visualization and Virtual Environments, and has developed a technique called 'structured light illumination' (WIPO patent description), where a pattern of dots or stripes is projected onto a curved or irregular surface.' of this story at Slashdot.

A public-private consortium known as IPHOBAC has been developing new communications technology that is near commercialization now. Quoting: 'With much of the mobile world yet to migrate to 3G mobile communications, let alone 4G, European researchers are already working on a new technology able to deliver data wirelessly up to 12.5Gb/s. Feedzilla is a news aggregator which categorizes news stories by topic. It is a platform where webmasters and bloggers can find an unmatched selection of easy to use, automatically updating and professional news widgets for their sites. Feedzilla supports the building of widgets in various formats, as well as allowing the addition of news widgets to different blogging platforms and social networks.

Feedzilla manually aggregates news summaries found in RSS feeds, and redistributes them in either RSS format or as a news widget. Content is collected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from an ever-growing list of providers.
