Cleaner in styling than similar preceding budget-priced all-in-one sound systems we've seen, Memorex's new Mi9490 ($140) combines an iPod- and iphone-ready dock with a CD player, an FM radio, and two 2.5' speakers. The system is pitched as capable of playing music loud, thanks to a 30W amplification package, and it's equipped with an Infrared remote control so that you can get far away from the speakers before turning them up. On April 15, Hannah will make her debut with others who made the cut at New York City's Carnegie Hall in a concert conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony.' of this story at Slashdot.

French National Assembly rejects internet piracy bill
(Telecompaper) In a surprise vote, France's National Assembly has rejected the internet piracy bill by a vote of 21 to 15. A compromise draft had been agreed by a bi-cameral committee only days before, and this is only the fourth time since 1958 that a bill submitted to this process has been rejected in the lower house. Despite the film and music industries' support of the bill, which requires illegal internet downloaders to lose their access if they persist after two warnings, it has met the opposition of socialist deputies who argue that it amounts to state surveillance of the internet because it gives copyright holders access web traffic data. The same party's senators had approved the draft legislation last October. The government, which had hoped for the first warning e-mails to be sent out in July, expects the legislation to be delayed, but no blocked. The Assembly's chairman has set 28 April, when deputies return from their Easter recess, for the bill's return to parliament.
