(Telecompaper) The Japan Fair Trade Commission has sent a draft order to mobile chipmaker Qualcomm, reportedly accusing the company of abusing its dominant market position. The competition concerns centre on licensing deals with Japanese mobile phone markers, according to Kyodo News, citing sources familiar with the matter. Qualcomm confirmed in a statement that it received the draft order, but is still awaiting a full translation. The US-based company said 'it appears that the draft is directed at common, industry-standard licensing terms that are in fact pro-competitive and were the subject of intense negotiations with very substantial Japanese companies'. Qualcomm has been informed that it will have the right to file a written response before a final decision is rendered, and intends to do so.
