Startup to virtualize memory and share it across servers
A virtualization start-up in stealth mode says it will offer technology that aggregates memory and shares it across servers, improving performance of online transaction processing and clustered or grid computing.RNA Networks, founded in 2006 in Portland, Ore., says it will not come out of stealth mode until Feb. 2 but has posted plenty of information about its technology on its Web site.[ Discover the top-rated IT products as rated by the InfoWorld Test Center. ]RNA says the virtualization of memory removes latency penalties that affect application performance and that its technology is already being used by a multi-billion dollar global hedge fund to speed up the processing of trades. Microsoft testing a better rival to Google Docs
Microsoft has begun testing some Web-based Office applications that will be delivered through Office Live Workspace, its online adjunct to Microsoft Office, and give the company a closer rival to online application suites such as Google Docs.Microsoft will begin a public beta test of what it calls the "Office Web applications" later this year.
