Researcher IDC, EMC Total Up the `Digital Universe`
For the third year, researcher IDC and storage infrastructure provider EMC have attempted to quantify all things digital: that is, to find and account for all the digital data in the world, no matter where it resides. This study includes everything: email, instant messages, voice recordings, documents, photos, video, graphics, data logs, TiVO recordings, business transaction data -- everything. EMC and IDC claim to have accounted for it all; at least this is what they tell eWEEK. - In a report released may 18 that ostensibly takes roll of everything digital -- up to and including the calendar year ending at midnight, Dec. 31, 2008 -- IDC and EMC estimate the so-called digital universe to be 487 billion gigabytes in size, give or take a few bytes. American Express To Eliminate 4,000 Jobs
American Express said Monday it is cutting about 4,000 jobs as part of a plan to slash another $800 million in costs for the remainder of the year. The layoffs represent about 6 percent of the credit card issuer's current global work force — and are in addtion to 7,000 layoffs announced in October 2008.

Forza 3 again spotted online
Official strategy guide mootedYet more hints this afternoon that Turn 10 could be working on Forza 3; the racing title allegedly first spied at a Brazilian press event last month. Now, a new Prima official strategy guide for the racer has been spotted on Amazon.de, despite Microsoft having not officially confirmed the title yet. The Prima guide doesn't have a release date on Amazon, but we're hoping the game itself will be confirmed at this year's E3 in Los Angeles. Still, it seems almost certain that the game does exist - making official word a case of when rather than if.
