(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia has selected city of Milan to launch the world's first ultra-broadband mobile network. The HSDPA+ network is based on Ericsson technology and enables internet connections from the TIM mobile at a speed of 28 Mbps (download)and 5.8 Mbps (upload). Telecom Italia is planning to equip the city of Rome with the same ultra-broadband mobile network by October, before progressively extending the service nationwide.

(Telecompaper) BT has won a 5-year contract valued at over GBP 99 million from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to support communications across 197 military bases. BT will manage data and voice networks on over 250,000 MoD assets, including buildings, common rooms and underground cable ducts. The contract forms part of the Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) Agreement that BT currently delivers on behalf of the MoD. The service is planned to be effective from 1st October 2009 and will focus on the maintenance of existing infrastructure, and ensuring new projects are standardised. Bailey Teswaine, NG Bailey's network infrastructure division, will support BT to deliver the services.

Upon general availability in October, companies and developers participating in Symbian Horizon will gain access to a variety of services that support the development, distribution, and marketing of mobile applications, while providing application certification, in-store presence, language translation services and marketing programmes.
