Tales From Silicon Valley: The Inside Dope on Apple, OSS, Microsoft and Google
I live in Silicon Valley, and sometimes I wonder if someone's putting something in our water. For instance, one of our local folks, who evidently treated his agorophobia by playing 'Resistance: Fall of Man,' has sued Sony for stealing money from him as a result of Sony's banning him from the game.

Bing Users` Click-Through Rate 55% Higher Than Google Users`
An anonymous reader writes 'Techcrunch is running a story that shows some pretty significant differences in the clicking habits of users of Yahoo, Google, and Bing. As it turns out, folks who arrive at websites via Bing are 55% more likely to click on an ad than if they arrived from Google (data based on the Chitika network). Essentially, people who use Bing are far more susceptible to advertising. Bing has acquired a decent market share in such a short time, but could it just be that they've reaped the low hanging fruit of those particularly persuaded by advertising? When their huge marketing campaign winds down, what kind of staying power will it have?' of this story at Slashdot.

Security and privacy concerns have been raised over a multimillion-dollar proposal by Los Angeles to tap Google's Internet-based services for government e-mail, police records and other confidential data. At issue is the security of computerized records on everything from police investigations to potholes as the nation's second-largest city considers dumping its in-house computer network for Google.

EFF Urges Pressure On Google Over Book Search
angry tapir writes 'The Electronic Frontier Foundation is urging its supporters to pressure Google to build significant privacy protections into its Book Search service. The EFF suggests that the service gives Google access to new personal information: what people are searching for in out-of-print and out-of-copyright books. The EFF posted its concerns with Google Book Search on its blog, with EFF designer/activist Hugh D'Andrade saying the search product could infringe on 'privacy of thought.' Google, in a responding blog post, said it will protect user privacy, though it can't yet say how — the service hasn't been designed yet, nor approved.' of this story at Slashdot.
