Viruses slow African hi-tech expansion
Hampered by pirated software and super-slow download times, computer users in Africa are finding PC viruses hard to eradicateAlan Mercer was at his desk in the regional capacity building bureau in Assosa, western Ethiopia, when a man burst into his office, distraught. Right at the end of a four-year master's degree programme, he had lost the only copy of his thesis to a computer virus. Mercer, an IT trainer with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), wasn't surprised. Conor Murphy, MP for Newry and Armagh, said the party had changed its policy 'in the context of best value for public money, security and the reduction in MPs' accommodation allowance as of May this year'.Earlier this year the Sunday Telegraph said the five Sinn Fein MPs had claimed almost £500,000 in expenses by renting London properties from an Irish landlord at above average rates. But Sinn Fein said the cost of its London apartments included services that other rental agreements
