PM calls for reform of super-injunctions
. Justice secretary said to be investigating media bans. Tory MP plans to report legal firm to Law SocietyGordon Brown today stepped into the row over the use of super-injunctions that ban reporting of a story and also the existence of the ban, telling MPs the legal tactic was 'an unfortunate area of the law'.At prime minister's questions Brown said he wanted progress on 'clearing up' the general problem and Jack Straw, the justice secretary, was, he said, personally conducting inquiries. In a display of cross-party unanimity, Brown welcomed a question from Tory MP Peter Bottomley, who said he intended to report solicitors Carter-Ruck to their disciplinary body because of their applications for super-injunctions on behalf of their clients. Bottomley said: 'No court should grant such an order and I intend to report the solicitors to the Law Society for asking for the injunction.'Bottomley's accusation followed criticism of Carter-Ruck the previous day by Labour MP Paul Farrelly, who tab

Drama follows liquidation of Joost UK
First, it looked like the days of the internet TV company Joost might be numbered. After their UK arm was liquidated a couple of days ago, the headquarters in Leiden declined to comment on the future of the company, while emails to its New York branch bounced back. Now things have got even nastier. Joost raised a lot of expectations in 2006 when it was co-founded by Skype's Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, who announced today the start of a new music sharing service, Rdio. In 2007, Joost was able to raise $45m in funding with investors like Sequoia Capital, CBS Corporation Viacom and Index Ventures. But Joost underperformed. It began redundancies in summer and nobody was surprised when, two weeks ago, David Rubin & Partners LLP, a London-based firm of licensed insolvency practitioners, announced 'Joost UK Limited, the online video company and wholly owned subsidiary of Netherlands based company Joost Technologies BV, has entered into liquidation. the company had failed to sustain a sig

AMD to power new Xbox console?
Rumours of new deal in placeWe've already heard rumour that Nvidia could be helping out with the graphical hardware behind the next Nintendo DS, and today we hear talk that AMD could be lined up to power the next iteration of the Xbox console.According to Fuzilla, AMD and ATI might have been enlisted to provide the GPU for the secret system. The current GPU hardware in the Xbox 360 is also made by this pair of firms, so if they have been enlisted once again this wouldn't exactly be a surprise.A release in 2012 is rumoured to be on the cards, while a 2010 release is said to have been pushed back owing to the global economic crisis. This could all be nonsense, of course. We'll let you know, either way.
