KPN revises VDSL roll-out strategy
(Telecompaper) KPN wants to bring out its IPTV produce Interactieve TV on a grand scale from the second quarter of next year. At around the same time, KPN will also introduce HDTV. To this end, the Dutch operator has revised its VDSL roll-out strategy, KPN told Telecompaper. The VDSL2 equipment will not only be placed in street cabinets, where it reaches around 450,000, but also in central offices. The move will reduce the need to pull fibre from the central offices to the street cabinets, reducing quality a bit but dramatically lowering costs. With the new strategy, KPN will be able to bring VDSL2 to 80 percent of Dutch households.
