BBC's Darren Walters writes: "Sony's declaration that sales of its PlayStation 3 console have now overtaken the xbox 360 in Europe will make for uncomfortable reading at Microsoft. I've been chatting with games consultant Nick Parker, who told me that it was "no surprise" that the PS3 is now ahead of the 360."

Jacob Mazel of VGChartz writes: "NPD will report USA sales for the four weeks ending May 3, 2008 on May 15, 2008 at 6:30 pm EST. The period will cover the first few days of the Grand Theft Auto IV launch on xbox 360 and PS3, as well as the Mario Kart Wii launch. NPD reported five weeks of data in its March report, but with the big game releases driving demand it is unlikely that the industry had smaller sales despite the shorter time frame. Vgchartz expects NPD to report the following: -Wii outsold PS3 and xbox 360 because of a huge shipment at the end of the month timed to coincide with the GTAIV and Mario Kart launches. -DS declined a bit in weekly sales from the previous month despite the launch of a new Pokemon game. -PS3 outsold xbox 360 and PSP by about 50,000 units for this period. -An interesting development for this month is the PS3. IGN writes..."Last year, Electronic Arts and Black Box literally reinvented the skateboarding videogame design with Skate, an xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 experience that put heavy focus on dual-analog stick control for its gameplay. What were once automatic button presses in games like Tony Hawk now had to be worked for by flicking your thumbs to pull them off. Because of the dual-analog focus, it wasn't surprising to see that the original game didn't make it to the Nintendo Wii or the Nintendo DS - two systems that lacked the "standard" control offered by the xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But that hasn't stopped the publisher from trying - in 2008, Electronic Arts will release Skate It, a spin-off of last year's console design that will focus on utilizing Wii remote and Nintendo DS touch screen for its skateboarding control. The Wii version will also support the Wii Balance Board that will ship with Wii Fit in two weeks."
